The Herd
Today we have both purebred and full blood families. The Princess Line, headed by matriarch Nahanni Princess can be traced back to Blyth Catherine, the top UK bloodline imported to NZ. Princess is the dam of top LIC bulls Braebrawn Conan, Braebrawn Emperor and new sire Braebrawn Imposing. Emperor had the largest EMA measured in bull his size and age of 142cm at 15 months old and 610kg.
Excellence in the productive traits of EMA and yield for the benefit of Braebrawns' clients is our aim.
History of the Braebrawn Stud
The foundations of the Braebrawn herd evolved in 1988 when selected British semen was used over an elite selected group of shorthorn and shorthorn/Angus cows.
An upgrading program with extensive use of AI has resulted with the superior musculature evident today.
As opportunities arose, selected full blood females have been added to the herd when individual bloodlines of known merit became available.
In 1996 the herd moved to Hawkes Bay to be run in conjunction with the BMW herd and the numbers were rationalised with only the top 20% being retained with the emphasis on muscle productivity and docility.
As a result of study trips to Belgium, Britain, Denmark, France and Australia, initiatives have been undertaken with bulls being imported that have taken the stud to the forefront of NZ genetics. A fuller understanding of the breeds productive advantages, have allowed maximum utilisation of new AI sires to push the production parameters of each successive generation.
