Supplying Genetics
for the $$$ and sense Breed

We first introduced the breed to Hawkes Bay in the eighties with semen (essentially to ascertain that half cross calves would birth readily, this was attained with out incident) and later with imported genetics in the form of ovum (frozen fertilized eggs) which has ensured a sound foundation to the BMW and Braebrawn herds of Belgian Blue. Followed with imported genetics from the top bulls standing at AI centres in Belgium (500,000 recorded cows is a large selection base). These donor bulls have been inspected by New Zealand Belgian Blue Beef Breeders Inc. appointed inspectors to an exacting standard to ensure that the standards expected by the New Zealand commercial farmer will be met.

As the supplier of Belgian Blue genetics to LIC BMW bulls aim for ease of calving, calf vigour and growth.

Reports from clients over past years have assured us we are on track, producing sound, reliable, easy calving bulls that are leaving the highest yielding progeny experienced, which are docile in the extreme, fast growing and above all else, profitable and a pleasure to farm.

Proven Fertility

The BMW herd was built around the line of Griboulle de la Bonne Raie, a bull who contributed growth and vigour. Since then lines that have built on those attributes have been added strengthened by further importations from Belgium. Bulls such as Lutin, Gluton, Savant and Magic from Blue Genes have all made productive advances for the stud. The size of the herd has allowed the development of many profitable productive traits from the extensive gene pool and ease of calving, calf vigour and musculature are all traits on which a focus has been maintained.
